All the adult children have moved back home, resulting in hilarious yet deeply affecting moments as they all learn to live under the same roof again.

The Pilot Episode finds the eldest daughter, Cora Marigold, dropping in on the family at dinner time after a long absence. Old feuds, forgotten love, questionable art, a Twilight obsession and a kooky priest combine to make this family truly Divine and unforgettable. (Facebook)

With it’s wide welcoming porch, ample indoor space and view it is not just a great place to spend the weekend…it is a great place to shoot a television show.

The crew recently wrapped up shooting and they hope to have the project completed by December and ready to present to the networks. Several successful television shows and movies have been set in Seattle. The cast and crew are all from the area and will no doubt bring the artistic flair and creativity that Seattle is known for to this project. We look forward to viewing the finished product. Some of the most interesting and memorable shows began with a great cast, great location and characters the public could relate to. The Divine Marigolds certainly has all of the above. We wish you the best!

Although not all of our bed and breakfasts are the location for a television pilot, every innkeeper and every inn has a unique story to tell. Now is the time to plan your next getaway with an innkeeper and learn what makes their property so special. Discover Washington one unique inn at a time.

Everybody knows about Black Friday, considered to be the busiest shopping day of the year and a predictor of the economic climate and success of the shopping season ahead. Lots of people are out before sun up heading to their favorite malls, shopping centers and chain department stores to snatch up bargains. Yesterday I stopped at Best Buy to grab a game. I take great pride in shopping BEFORE Thanksgiving. (I have never shopped on Black Friday!) To my surprise there were 2 people camped out..yes literally camped out on the sidewalk in front of the store waiting for the Black Friday opening! This was Wednesday. Apparently they were spending THEIR Thanksgiving on a sidewalk in front of a chain electronics store so they could be first in line to spend money! Seriously?

Although some consider Black Friday fun, I just think of the crowds, the shoving, the lines, the parking…not to mention the news reports of people being literally trampled when the doors open, and I stay home. Yep, there has never been a deal great enough or an idea creative enough to entice me to shop Thanksgiving weekend…until now.

Enter Small Business Saturday! Now there is a concept. I owned a small business and realize that Black Friday and all the $$$’s go to the chains, big box stores and shopping malls, but not many people consider shopping in pedestrian friendly small town shopping districts or dropping by that small strip center with their favorite home store or boutique.
Again, Enter Small Business Saturday. This holiday, sponsored by American Express, is gaining momentum. Check out their Facebook page! FB is offering free ad space to small businesses across the country to promote this new idea.

There are a number of reasons to shop small and local on Small Business Saturday:

1. They are looking forward to seeing you. Yes, the person behind the register or greeting you as you enter probably owns the business. No punching a time clock here. They depend on you to pay the bills and they are glad you have chosen to shop with them.

2. No lines. No lines at the register, no lines in the parking lot, no lines on the highway waiting to exit only to get to wait in the lines in the parking lot and then stand in the lines at the register! (ok, that’s a lot of lines)

3. Great deals. Local business offer great deals on their goods and services, but often they do not have the $$$’s to advertise like the big chains do. Drop by and check them out.

4. These are your friends and neighbors. Small business owners live in your community. They shop where you shop, their children sit next to yours in school, they attend the same church or civic group….they even do yoga at the same place! If you don’t know them, stop in and introduce yourself. They don’t get out much…small business owners work a lot to pay the bills. Drop by and say hi!

5. Spread the wealth…or at least the budget! Do not misunderstand. I am not against the chains and big box stores….I just believe there is enough to go around. Every store is unique. Small business owners started with a unique idea and vision. Check out that holiday shopping list and consider spending some of your hard earned dollars with people who are an important part of your local community.

A mEx promotes “Small Business Saturday” AP/Yahoo News

Consider supporting small business in 2011. Next year would be a great time to discover Washington one Bed and Breakfast, one charming inn, and one charming innkeeper at a time. Happy Thanksgiving all!

Otters Pond Bed and Breakfast, located on Orcas Island is sporting a blanket of white. Snow is unusual on the islands, so they snap photos quickly…before it is gone. That is the hot tub in the left of the photo. I can just imagine relaxing in the steamy tub and looking out over the frozen pond and snow covered pines. I can also imagine hot tea and Carl’s warm chocolaty brownies!

This image was taken at The Red Caboose Getaway in Sequim. Although the weather outside is frightful, this bnb sports 8 luxury cabooses, many with whirlpool tubs, fireplaces, wifi and flat screen televisions and a gourmet breakfast in their elegant dining car. You do not need to be a train buff to appreciate these lovingly restored cabooses. Settle in and just let it snow!

Although Arlington’s River Rock Inn, a secluded lodge set amid towering pines is beautiful anytime….snow just seems to add to the charm. Here I would enjoy breakfast served in front of the towering river rock fireplace and view of the snow covered forest from the floor to ceiling windows. Perfect way to start my day. Also, keep an eye out for deer or other amazing wildlife.

I simply could not resist including this one. The Miller Tree Inn, also known as the Cullen House in Forks has a great time featuring “Edward Cullen” as a frequent guest. Here, “Edward” is perched on a snow covered table. Not sure how vampires feel about cold, but a steamy cup of hot chocolate and a welcoming smile are just steps away. Forks is not just for vampires, you know.

Cameo Heights Mansion has a magnificent view anytime of year, but the rolling hills of the wine country are truly beautiful blanketed with snow. Here I would choose to have an elegant dinner, created by their own chef. After enjoying the fine cuisine and spectacular view, I would relax in their in home theater with a hot cup of tea and my favorite movie. No need to brave the elements…they have everything you need right here!

Although I could have featured the charming Swantown Inn located in Olympia sporting snow and ice, I chose this picture instead. Casey Allen has a unique eye and her photography speaks volumes about the beauty of her inn and the area. Since the weather outside is frightful, I would spend my day in the Attic Day Spa, located at the inn. After much pampering I would relax with a cup of freshly brewed coffee and one of Casey’s freshly baked cookies.

Snow brings out the kid in all of us….so next time they are predicting snow…decide to ride out the storm with our innkeepers in some of the most beautiful lodging spots in the state. They are predicting a tough winter in Washington state so now is the time to keep our link handy and discover Washington blanketed in snow, one warm cozy inn at a time.

When choosing a place to stay, go local and choose a bed and breakfast. The innkeepers have a wealth of information about the area, events, restaurants and yes….they know mushrooms. Enjoy the personal service, warm atmosphere and of course the sumptuous breakfast. Innkeepers are locals who want to show you the very best of their home and community.

There are several great bed and breakfasts located on the Long Beach peninsula.

The historic Shelburne Inn located in Seaview is know for knowlegable hosts, gourmet dining and elegant breakfasts that include local seafood and yes…..mushrooms.

China Beach Retreat located in Illwaco offers a romantic getaway with a spectacular water view.

Make romantic memories amidst beautiful gardens at the peaceful Doveshire Bed and Breakfast in Ocean Park.

Settle into the George Johnson House a beautiful 1913 Craftsman style home just a short walk from the beach.

Enjoy the view of Willapa Bay while dining on a breakfast of local oysters, crab and smoked salmon at the charming Charles Nelson House.

Finally, relax at Boreas Bed and Breakfast in Long Beach with stunning views of the ocean, private hot tub and 3 course gourmet breakfasts.

So you have a once a year culinary event, a variety of great restaurants and six great places to stay.

Now is the time to discover the mushroom and discover Washington….one inn at a time.

In my quest for all things Twilight, I knew I must see the place where everything changed for Bella. I wanted to see up close her adopted hometown of Forks, a small remote town in the middle of the breath-taking Washington state rain forest. Yes, it is really there and it looks exactly the way she described it. I found it misty-gray, engulfed by rain forest, with the salty smell of the ocean hanging in the air.

Immersing yourself in Twilight is not hard to do when you are in Forks. I wanted to stay in this small town near the northern tip of Washington to see where Bella fell for Edward and where Jacob healed her. I wasn’t looking to go cliff diving, but a walk on the beach sounded good. I’ve narrowed down my top three favorite places to stay in Forks. Naturally, The Cullen House (a.k.a. The Miller Tree Inn) is a top contender. This 1916 white farmhouse with a circular drive is a classic look at the Cullen home (think book, not movie). This bed and breakfast is the perfect place to rest your head for humans or sit and read a book for vampires. Humans will also enjoy the amazing breakfast, prepared by the Cullen staff, Bill and Susan Brager. Another plus, the Cullen staff “speak Twilight” and Esme is known to leave messages for visitor’s on the front porch. Find out more by reading The Cullen House blog.

If you want to stay closer to the romance and near Edward and Bella’s cottage, I would recommend the Misty Valley Inn. This bed and breakfast sits near the Sol Duc River, the same one Bella jumped over to go hunting for the first time. Rise in the morning to a breakfast Bella would love, while looking over the river valley below. I would check for glimpses of Alice and Jasper while you are soaking in the view.

Team Jacob fans may want to stay closer to La Push at the Manitou Lodge. This cedar lodge just west of Forks, near La Push is where the wolf pack would be most comfortable. You will find Manitou Lodge to be an authentic deep woods experience with Native American art and a long front drive surrounded by dense coastal rain forest. The lodge has direct access to the wild beaches of Olympic National Park. Sit on some driftwood and contemplate Bella’s escape from Victoria or the ancient Quileutes lore about the cold ones.

For more on Twilight adventures ask your Forks innkeeper.

The key is finding what is romantic to your sweetheart. Creating the perfect getaway is easier than you might think, with a little help from a great innkeeper you can plan the perfect day and evening for your special someone. If she likes to hike, bike and explore the outdoors you might consider heading to the North Cascades for outdoor adventure with a hearty breakfast and luxury linens for a good nights rest. If your Valentine prefers shopping in the city and eating at cool bistros make reservations at an urban inn, where your innkeeper will share with you the best local restaurants and cafe’s. Should your sweetie want to be pampered from head to toe, reserve a massage at a bed and breakfast with a spa. You can also celebrate Valentines Day quietly when you stay at a private cottage for two. Exchange chocolate kisses while enjoying the breathtaking views of Washington by choosing a bed and breakfast with water views that will take her breath away. Romantic getaways are the key to winning any girls heart. Luxury amenitities, two person tubs, champagne, flowers and chocolate are the elements of romance you will find at any of the quality bed and breakfasts through the Washington Bed and Breakfast Guild. The choices for Valentines day are endless, but one thing I know for sure…all girls love flowers and chocolate. Make sure to ask your innkeeper about their romance specials and make it a weekend to remember.
